My Writing Process Blog Hop

Hi, all:

My fellow author,  Vala Kaye, has tagged me to be next on the “My Writing Process Blog Tour” (#MyWritingProcess). Vala writes YA science fiction and paranormal YA romance.

Please check out her site http://valakaye.com/about-vala-kaye/ to find out more about Vala and the delightful books she writes!  You can see more information about her books at http://valakaye.com/about/.

Without further ado, let’s move on to the four required blog questions:

What am I currently working on?

I am a multi-tasker who always has more than one project going on.  At the moment, I am working on a first draft of the third novel in my Elementals series.  I also have a first draft of the third in my Urban Fantasy time travel series.  I will be self-publishing the second novella in the time travel series, called Best of Times, on Amazon shortly.  Soon I will start working on a second draft of the second book in my Paranormal romance Elementals series.  I also have a contemporary series I’m working on and am trying my hand at various short story calls for submission in SF, Horror and Romance.

How does my work differ from others of its genre?

I try to bring different types of paranormal beings in from mythology, rather than rely on the usual vampires and werewolves.  In my stories you will see all manner of little-known paranormal beings, as well as pantheons of minor gods.  As far as the contemporaries go, my characters have flaws and insecurities that I try to make organic to their personalities, and not imposed from without.  It isn’t always pretty, but it’s real.

Why do I write what I do?

I was raised in a science fiction/fantasy household and as I matured I discovered that I wanted to tackle that side of the fiction world within my romance stories.  I love being able to be free to explore all manner of extra sensory and other worldly situations with immortal and paranormal beings and still have a happy ever after.

How does my writing process work?

I have settled into a routine where I write at least a thousand words every morning without fail.  Sometimes more, but at least a thousand.  I find that setting that goal for me works and keeps me focused.  I am definitely a fly by the seat of my pants writer in that I have an overall plot and beginning and end but often the particulars are coming to me on a thousand word by thousand word basis.  It can make for awkward shifts and necessary changes in the beginning as the middle and end flow differently than originally expected, but I’m okay with that.   As long as I keep moving forward the rest comes over time.

There’s so much more but those are the basics.  I’d love to hear your comments, so please feel free to drop me a line!

I’m now tagging my friend and Los Angeles Romance Authors (LARA) chapter mate, Susan B. James, to carry on this blog tour. Susan writes urban fantasy and romance under Susan B. James, and children’s books under Susan J. Berger. You can read more about her great stories at  http://susanbjames.blogspot.com/and can also check her out on Facebook at Take it away, Susan!
